Seriously impressed with the Solar Whiz SW-AU-R-40 after a year, especially under our heat-trap grey/black Colorbond roof here in Sydney. My wife totally scoffed at me at first ("whirlybird vs. Solar Whirlybird? Pfft!"). And yeah, it’s pricier than the plastic solar comps, but holy cow—the performance is next level. That adjustable thermostat works wonders. The suction is HUGE. Our roof space has cooled down dramatically, making the house feel less humid, and the best part? Our AC use at night is way, way down. Saved a fortune, and it's free to run (solar FTW ☀️). The build quality is solid metal too, unlike the cheap plastic versions that will probably die quickly. Only regret is not getting the Night Operations Kit initially—I wish it could keep pulling out heat and condensation after the sun goes down. Final Verdict: 100% worth the cost. If you’re thinking of cooling your home properly, ignore the skepticism and grab this beast. Highly recommend!

I had a Solar Whiz installed on my two storey Sydney home in November 2025 and it's made a big difference to the temperature in the upstairs bedrooms which previously were much hotter than downstairs because of the heat trapped in the ceiling. We have been able to significantly reduce the aircon use now that the Solar Whiz fan keeps the ceiling and upstairs cooler. It's very quiet but I can just hear when it's working. I'm glad I got the power backup so that the fan keeps working after the sun goes down or on hot but overcast days.

Great product! After lots of research I purchased a 28w (SW-AR-R- 28) for my 3 bedroom unit and am very happy with the solarwhiz and support from the company. All my email and phone call enquiries were promptly and thoroughly answered, and the unit arrived within 3 days of purchase (impressive just before Xmas). Gab in the office gave good advice as to the appropriate amount of eave vents to purchase and supplied installation paperwork’s and link to a video. I purchased the additional night operation mode and Gab helpfully pre-wired the unit which sped up instillation. The solarwhiz worked straight out of the box when placed in the sun, and I can notice the cooler temperature inside during summer. Highly recommended!

I bought a SolarWhiz roof exhaust fan 2 years ago in 2023 and it has made a real difference to our house. On hot days our house would heat up by about 1 degree per hour, but with the fan venting the roof cavity, our house now warms up at around 0.7 degrees per hour. That means we have the aircon running 2 or 3 hours less on those days. Unfortunately, the unit seems to have stopped working, but the team at SolarWhiz have cheerfully agreed to replace it under warranty. All good!

Solar costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do solar installers typically charge?
Solar costs vary widely depending on system size, equipment choices, roof access and whether additional electrical upgrades or battery work are required. Simple panel adds or routine maintenance are typically much less involved than full system installs or battery integrations. This page shows live pricing to help compare current rates alongside the specific scope of your job.
Do solar installers charge call-out fees?
Yes — call-out fees are common for solar installers and are often charged to cover attendance and an initial assessment. Call-outs are usually separate from hourly labour and materials, and after-hours or emergency visits typically attract higher rates. Confirm whether a call-out fee is included or listed separately when comparing quotes.
Do solar installers need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Solar installation work is required to be carried out by a licensed installer in every Australian state and territory, and in NSW installers are licensed through NSW Fair Trading. Many installers also hold industry credentials such as Clean Energy Council accreditation and may display a valid state electrical contractor licence on quotes, as well as public liability insurance. These credentials can help indicate the installer has relevant training and compliance practices.
Does Solar Whiz have a verified ABN?
Yes. Solar Whiz has completed ABN verification on SureQuote.
How do I get a quote from Solar Whiz?
Solar Whiz lists email or through their website on this profile, so you can contact them directly for pricing and availability. Share a short scope and photos to get a faster quote.
