The Auscert team were a pleasure to deal with. Steve, Jenna and Tegan were all professional and courteous. They answered questions promptly and assisted with navigating your way through the paperwork. Everything from commencement to the final inspection was done in a timely and polite way. The whole process was without stress, and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Steve and the team at Auscert Building Certifiers helped guide us through the maze of legislation and building code requirements when building a home for people with disability in the ACT. Steve's in depth knowledge of the building code was fundamental in the successful outcome of Canberra's first NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation house for people with High Physical Support needs. Thanks Steve, we look forward to engaging Auscert on our next 6 projects in Canberra and surrounding areas in NSW. Greg Dalla CEO Disability Housing Solutions

Auscert has a brilliant team of people who go out of their way to be helpful, patient, courteous and supportive - and they have a sense of humour too. Jenna, Tegan and Daniel made what could have been a stressful process much less painful and were able to be efficient and persistent with the ACT government on our behalf. They must have a very good network. πŸ˜€ Definitely highly recommended.

I had an exceptional experience with Steve Kolano and his team at Auscert Building Certifiers, and I highly recommend their building certification services. We reached out to them for an Exemption Assessment B notice in the ACT, and they immediately grasped the urgency of our request. They provided us with expert guidance throughout the entire process and impressively managed to complete it all within a single working day. The professionalism and efficiency displayed by Steve and his team were truly commendable. If you're seeking reliable and efficient building certification services, I wholeheartedly recommend Auscert Building Certifiers.

These guys saved our bacon! Steve and his team were meticulous in their inspection and refused to settle for anything less than full marks. To be totally honest, we were devastated when we failed our certificate of occupancy inspection the first time around, but we couldn't fault the report. Unbeknown to us, the air conditioning was poorly installed with one zone venting directly into the ceiling...not ideal for our energy rating or power bills. To his credit, our foreman got straight onto the issue and personally rectified it over the weekend, rather than wait for the installers which would have had us miss our chance to move in before Christmas. Auscert were willing to come back out as soon as the issues were rectified to re-inspect. Something they were under no obligation to do, especially given their office was closing in a matter of days. Re-inspection was a success and we were able to spend Christmas in our new home. Not only did they save us from a problem which could have taken months for us to work out existed, they also bent over backwards trying to get us into our home without compromising on the integrity of their inspection and report. Huge shout out to Tegan in the office who must have fielded about 20 phone calls and countless emails from us over the course of a few days, never getting frustrated and always treating us like she was in this with us. We felt like inviting her to Christmas lunch...but that would have been weird, so instead there is this review and a hope that it convinces you to hire Auscert. They will work for you and not for your builder :)

Building Inspection costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do building inspectors typically charge?
Costs vary depending on the type of inspection, property size, report detail and travel required. Many building inspectors charge an hourly rate plus a call-out fee, with higher rates for after-hours attendance. This page shows live pricing to help you compare quotes.
Do building inspectors charge call-out fees?
Yes β€” many building inspectors charge a call-out fee to attend and assess a property. That fee typically covers travel and the initial assessment and is separate from the hourly rate and any report costs. It's sensible to confirm any call-out or minimum charges when requesting quotes.
Do building inspectors need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Building inspection and certifying work generally needs to be carried out by a licensed or registered building inspector or certifier under state and territory rules. In New South Wales the responsible authority is the NSW Building Commission (formerly NSW Fair Trading). Look for providers who display valid state registration, an ABN with GST registration and appropriate public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
