Who can help if I have a dispute with my tradie?
Your agreement for the work is with the tradie, so raise the problem with them first, in writing. If you can’t sort it out, contact the consumer or building dispute service in your state or territory.
What SureQuote does
We are not part of your agreement with the tradie, so we can’t decide a dispute about the work, the price or a payment. Please report the tradie to us as well. We look into reports and review the tradie’s place on SureQuote.
Before you contact a dispute service
- Tell the tradie in writing what is wrong, what you want them to do, and the date you want it done by.
- Keep your quote, contract, invoices, messages and photos of the work.
The Australian Consumer Law gives you guarantees when you pay for a service. The dispute service in your state can tell you what applies to your job.

- **Queensland:** building work, the QBCC. Other trades, the Office of Fair Trading
- **Western Australia:** building work, Building and Energy. Other trades, Consumer Protection
- **South Australia:** Consumer and Business Services
- **Tasmania:** building work, Building Standards Tasmania. Other trades, Consumer Affairs Tasmania
- **ACT:** Access Canberra
- **Northern Territory:** NT Consumer Affairs
If the work is unsafe, keep people away from it. In an emergency, call 000.
How do I report or block a tradie?
In Messages, open the conversation, select More options (the three dots), then choose Report conversation or Block tradie. We look into reports and review the tradie’s place on SureQuote.
Report a conversation
- Open Messages and open the conversation.
- Select More options, then Report conversation.
- Pick a reason. If you choose Something else, add a short note.
- Select Send report.
What we do with a report
We look into the report and review the tradie’s place on SureQuote. We don’t share what we decide about another business.
A report does not settle a dispute about the work or its price. For that, see who can help with a dispute with your tradie.
Block a tradie
- Open the conversation and select More options.
- Select Block tradie, then confirm.
Neither of you can then send messages in any conversation you share. To undo it, choose Unblock tradie in the same menu.
