I recently had the pleasure of working with Stuart at Rees Building and I couldn't be happier with the job he did on our new laundry. Stuart of Rees Building was great to deal with from the very start. He was friendly when he came around to quote for several different outside jobs: replacing eave sheets and a down pipe/gutter, sealing doors/windows, re-purposing an old gate, and rebuilding a pool pump house. He was great about listening to what we wanted and suggesting solutions. His quote was prompt, fair and detailed for each separate job. Stuart started the work when scheduled and completed the work promptly and professionally. He was well organised and an excellent communicator - always happy to get our input and explain what he was doing. The whole experience was smooth and positive, and we were very pleased with Stuart's high level of workmanship and professionalism. We will definitely be contacting Stuart for future jobs.

Stu was very easy to work with from start to finish. He came and inspected the job and offered suggestions as well as listening to what we wanted. This was then followed up with a speedy detailed quote. He replaced door trims and repaired and replaced a screen door and did an excellent job. I shall definitely be looking to use Stu again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.

Carpentry costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do carpenters typically charge?
Carpentry costs vary widely depending on the job. Simple trim or door hanging is usually less than internal framing, small outdoor structures or timber repairs that require more labour and materials. Most carpenters charge a call-out fee plus an hourly labour rate, with after-hours work attracting higher rates; this page shows live local pricing to help you compare quotes.
Do carpenters charge call-out fees?
Call-out fees are common and typically cover travel and the initial assessment. These fees are usually charged separately from hourly labour and materials. After-hours attendance is often charged at a higher rate, so confirm any call-out or minimum fees when requesting quotes.
Do carpenters need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Carpentry work is generally required to be carried out by a licensed tradesperson in every Australian state and territory. In NSW, licences are administered by Building Commission NSW (formerly NSW Fair Trading). You should expect providers to display a valid state building or trade licence on quotes and advertising, and to hold an ABN, public liability insurance and industry memberships such as HIA or Master Builders.
