We needed a bulding work supervisor to take over the build from a developer that went belly up. James has been invaluable as we went owner builder to finish the extension. He has extensive knowledge in the building industry, engages with the trades well, creative in coming up with workarounds and most importantly is available when you need him, answers the phone or calls back promptly (trust me, thats rare). More than half way through now, not sure how we could have got to this point without him.

As a first time owner builder, it has been a pleasure to work with James. Will not hesitate in recommending or using him again. Thanks again James. Regards Manuele & Kate

Frequently asked questions

How much do building inspectors typically charge?
Costs vary depending on the type of inspection, property size, report detail and travel required. Many building inspectors charge an hourly rate plus a call-out fee, with higher rates for after-hours attendance. This page shows live pricing to help you compare quotes.
Do building inspectors charge call-out fees?
Yes — many building inspectors charge a call-out fee to attend and assess a property. That fee typically covers travel and the initial assessment and is separate from the hourly rate and any report costs. It's sensible to confirm any call-out or minimum charges when requesting quotes.
Do building inspectors need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Building inspection and certifying work generally needs to be carried out by a licensed or registered building inspector or certifier under state and territory rules. In New South Wales the responsible authority is the NSW Building Commission (formerly NSW Fair Trading). Look for providers who display valid state registration, an ABN with GST registration and appropriate public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
