I’ve had the best experience with Paul Harris discussing solar. I get tired of salespeople “promising” you’ll sell your house for more if you have solar - and no, that doesn’t happen. Paul never tried that tactic and was more honest than any other salesperson I’ve experienced lately. He actually told me that a battery, on a cost basis, for me as a single person in a house, would not be needed and knew not to oversell things. Thanks for your honesty Paul - I will be recommending you to others ! Christine from Canberra

I got a 6.65kW system (SunPower P3 385w panels) with a Huawei inverter and 5kW Huawei battery. Paul Harris from Solargain was very helpful through the whole process, he was never pushy and he continues to provide support post-installation to any general questions I have. I'd definitely recommend Paul and Solargain.

We just had a second installation by Ben’s team at SolarGain. From the quoting discussions and site visits through to the sign off after installation, the installation team was professional, communicative and efficient. My questions were answered clearly and the system sized appropriately including a significant saving on their battery approach vs mine, and I am an electrical and systems engineer. I highly recommend this company. David

Matt from the local Solargain came to undertake the 5 yearly test of the system they had installed 10 years ago and it was all good! Matt turned up on time and gave a clear explanation of what he was to do. Having observed cowboy contractors on neighbours roofs breaking tiles and rushing to finish quickly it was refreshing to have a careful considerate business employee visit. Matt was also knowledgeable and able to advise on the way our solar system was only linked to one of the houses three phases and how this limited the extent to which we used solar power. Solargain isn't the first business to come up on Google but we will be talking to them when looking to getting an additional solar system in the near future.

Solar costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do solar installers typically charge?
Solar costs vary widely depending on system size, equipment choices, roof access and whether additional electrical upgrades or battery work are required. Simple panel adds or routine maintenance are typically much less involved than full system installs or battery integrations. This page shows live pricing to help compare current rates alongside the specific scope of your job.
Do solar installers charge call-out fees?
Yes — call-out fees are common for solar installers and are often charged to cover attendance and an initial assessment. Call-outs are usually separate from hourly labour and materials, and after-hours or emergency visits typically attract higher rates. Confirm whether a call-out fee is included or listed separately when comparing quotes.
Do solar installers need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Solar installation work is required to be carried out by a licensed installer in every Australian state and territory, and in NSW installers are licensed through NSW Fair Trading. Many installers also hold industry credentials such as Clean Energy Council accreditation and may display a valid state electrical contractor licence on quotes, as well as public liability insurance. These credentials can help indicate the installer has relevant training and compliance practices.
How do I get a quote from Solargain Canberra?
