Matt did a fantastic job on our gate and backyard!! I initially contacted him for a new automatic driveway gate and he showed up on time, built the gate exactly how he said and had it complete within two days. We then gave him an extra task of widening our driveway by ripping out some garden and laying more gravel and flattening parts of our grass garden area. We now have a super functional driveway and backyard and we’re really happy with how it all looks. I basically picked Matt based off the positive Google reviews he had and they definitely lived up to my expectations of him and his work - so if you’re considering him for a fence or other backyard work I would definitely give him a go. His quotes come back as a few lines in an email (rather than a formal document with lots of detail if that’s your expectation), but he 100% delivers on his work. He’s also a super friendly guy and easy to deal with. Cheers Matt!

We have used Matt to install three different fences in two different jobs, and have always been totally happy with the result. Filling in the detail on Matt's website, with measurements and pictures was fairly easy and it meant that he had all the detail needed to quote the work. We had initially asked for a fence repair job, but thanks to the weather, it turned into a replacement project. We were kept appraised of where we were in his installation queue and he showed up exactly as promised. We took the option of steel posts (which we would always recommend) and Matt took care to use quality materials and used his experience to build something that we were very pleased with. Finally, we found that Matt was happy to return and address any issues: we had a minor concern related to an escape-artist dog that we felt might be able to overcome a small gap under a gate that Matt built, so he came back promptly and without complaint, and addressed the problem. We would without hesitation recommended Matt, and if we needed another fence installed, use him again. Have attached a sample of the photos of the replacement of our rear fence. Matt subsequently replaced the side fence visible in the 4th photo.

Matt did a brilliant job extending the height of our fence with additional trellis. Price reasonable. Timing punctual. As you can see from the photos what started out as a repair job after a hedge removal has turned into a garden backdrop feature. Delighted! Matt clearly not just a’fencer’. Creative problem solver. 😀

Matt did an excellent job of installing a front fence at our property. He was very easy to deal with every step of the way, from the quote through to assisting with advice on design and of course building it to our specifications. I highly recommend him and would use him again for any future fencing needs. Thanks Matt for a job well done.

Matt recently completed 50 metres of paling fence for us and we’re very happy with the result. He was fast to quote, easy to communicate with, and booked our start date promptly. He worked like a machine - efficient and with quality workmanship. Matt also dealt directly with council and our neighbours to sort out logistics, access and payments, which made things easy. Punctual, professional and a good guy. Highly recommend!

Fencing costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do fencers typically charge?
Fencing costs vary considerably depending on fence type, length, materials, site conditions and whether existing fencing must be removed. Simple repairs or short runs of standard post-and-paling or Colourbond typically cost less than full replacements or jobs on difficult ground. The page shows live pricing for common fencing jobs, and quotes usually include a call-out fee plus labour and materials, with after-hours work attracting higher rates.
Do fencers charge call-out fees?
Many fencers charge a call-out fee to attend and assess the job, particularly for small or diagnostic visits. This fee is generally separate from hourly labour and materials and may be credited against the job total. Confirm whether a call-out fee applies when you request a quote.
When do fencers need a licence?
Fencing work may require registration or a contractor licence in some states and territories; requirements vary by jurisdiction. Jobs that affect safety or involve pool fencing, structural posts or significant replacement work are examples that may trigger registration. Where applicable, look for a valid state contractor licence, ABN with GST, current public liability insurance, industry association membership (for example FIAA) and a White Card.
