We cannot recommend Paul and Jess from The Timber Deck Company highly enough. They have done an absolutely incredible job for us. It is beautiful, high quality, and has genuinely transformed how we use and enjoy our home. From start to finish, the whole process was smooth, professional and stress-free. Communication was excellent, timelines were clear, and everything ran exactly as promised. Paul and Jess were a pleasure to deal with. Friendly, reliable, and clearly passionate about their craft. The attention to detail and workmanship is outstanding. The deck looks amazing and fits our house perfectly. It’s completely changed our lifestyle. We’re using the space every day and couldn’t be happier with the result. Exceptional work and genuinely great people to work with.

If you are on the fence about which builder to trust with your deck, I hope this review helps. If you want a high quality deck, built with genuine craftsmanship and care, I highly recommend The Timber Deck Company. As a family run business, they combine a professional approach with real personal attention. Paul and Jess are a pleasure to deal with, with the whole process running smoothly, from start to finish. After planning my deck for over 5 years, I had a very clear vision of what I wanted - and equally strong concerns about choosing the right builder to deliver it. Quality finish and workmanship mattered enormously to me, and I was cautious about getting it wrong, having corners cut, or ending up with something that didn't reflect what I had carefully planned. I was getting overwhelmed trying to navigate all the deck builder websites, carpenters and landscapers and other tradespeople who were all saying they could build my deck ( a 2nd story deck), and even after many hours of research and a few quotes, I still did not feel confident that I knew what I was actually going to end up with as an end result, or that I was even going to be able to effectively communicate with the builder throughout the process if I had any concerns along the way. After coming across The Timber Deck Company's website, things immediately felt different. There was a clear emphasis on quality, craftsmanship and care, rather than volume or speed. When I first met Paul, that impression was confirmed. He listened carefully to what I wanted, engaged in detailed discussions about the project, and took the time to explain his approach clearly and patiently. His communication skills immediately stood out, and for the first time in this journey, I felt confident that I was being properly heard and understood. Until I met and received a quote from Paul, I hadn't realised how critical good communication is when choosing and working with a builder. His ability to listen, understand what I was asking for, and discuss and explain options clearly and patiently, made the whole process stress free and enjoyable. With The Timber Deck Company, you deal with Paul and Jess throughout the entire process. There is no middle layer, no confusion, and Paul is onsite every day doing the work himself. I work from home, so I was able to observe the build from start to finish. Watching Paul work, it quickly became clear that he was highly organised and experienced and that I did not need to micro-manage the build. Paul approached the project methodically and with patience. Nothing was rushed. Every stage was measured, planned and executed carefully. It was great to watch someone who clearly loves working with timber - the level of detail and workmanship was inspiring, with everything treated properly, professionally, and with care for every aspect of the build no matter how minor. Whenever I had a question, it was answered thoroughly. If there were options or refinements to consider, they were discussed openly. On several occasions, Paul suggested improvements that enhanced the final outcome beyond what I had originally planned. I adopted his recommendations every time because it was clear they would improve both the finish, functionality, and longevity of the deck. Toward the end, if a situation arose where Paul asked, "How would you like this done?", my standard response became, "However you would do it please, Paul." That level of trust developed because of the consistency, care and professionalism he demonstrated throughout the build. This professionalism remained consistent throughout the whole project. The site was kept organised, timelines were respected, and communication stayed strong from beginning to completion. That consistency gave me peace of mind, which only grew as the project unfolded. The final result is exactly what I had envisioned - solid, beautifully finished, and clearly built with care and pride. Please see the photos, they say it all (Note: I am completing the house cladding etc myself, by choice). Thanks Paul and Jess

Paul from The Timber Deck Company has been amazing to deal with, very reliable, works hard, great with organising trades, turns up when he says he will. It was so nice actually finding a builder you didn’t have to micromanage or have to get the job corrected as it wasnt up to standards. We couldn’t fault Paul at all. Paul did an exceptional job on our kitchen and laundry. We will be definitely getting him back to replace our wrap around deck. You will not regret hiring Paul!

Paul built a pavilion for us in 2020....a pergola with an enclosed chamfer board studio. It has exposed beams with tongue and groove ceiling, hardwood floor and iron roof which gives it old world charm. It is a very solid construction and we are extremely happy with it. It looks as good as it did when first built over 4 years ago.

Deck Building costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do deck builders typically charge?
Deck building costs vary widely depending on the type of job and how complex it is. Small repairs or a simple refinish are generally much less than a full new deck or work that requires structural repairs. The prices shown on this page are live and can help you compare quotes and understand likely costs.
Do deck builders charge call-out fees?
Many deck builders charge a call-out or minimum attendance fee to assess the site, which is usually separate from labour and materials. After-hours or emergency attendance is often charged at a higher rate. It's worth confirming any call-out or minimum fees when you request a quote.
Do deck builders need a licence in Australia?
Yes — deck builders generally need a contractor licence or registration to carry out building work in all states and territories. In NSW the key authority is the NSW Building Commission (formerly NSW Fair Trading). You should expect a builder to provide their licence or registration number, hold public liability insurance and display relevant industry credentials such as association membership and a White Card.
Is The Timber Deck Company licensed?
Yes. The Timber Deck Company currently shows an active trade licence on SureQuote.
How do I get a quote from The Timber Deck Company?
