Hard to put into words how good this bloke is. I have embarked on two big home renovation jobs as well as several commercial fit outs over the past twenty years. I have crossed paths with many many tradespeople of mixed abilities. The last renovation of a heritage home in Dungog was quite remarkable and with a talented team of tradespeople I doubled the sale value of the home in a little over 18 months. If you asked me out of all those people who would be the first person I would choose for my next project it would unequivocally be Sean. His prodigious carpentry talents and ability to work to deadlines and budgets was without peer. I worked with Sean for nearly three years and his sage advice and calming expertise saved many an occasion. I would also give this endorsement to anybody that would like to hear it from my own mouth. This bloke isn’t going to just do your job, he is going to save you money and give you a result beyond your expectations. Stephen Orr

Carpentry costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do carpenters typically charge?
Carpentry costs vary widely depending on the job. Simple trim or door hanging is usually less than internal framing, small outdoor structures or timber repairs that require more labour and materials. Most carpenters charge a call-out fee plus an hourly labour rate, with after-hours work attracting higher rates; this page shows live local pricing to help you compare quotes.
Do carpenters charge call-out fees?
Call-out fees are common and typically cover travel and the initial assessment. These fees are usually charged separately from hourly labour and materials. After-hours attendance is often charged at a higher rate, so confirm any call-out or minimum fees when requesting quotes.
Do carpenters need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Carpentry work is generally required to be carried out by a licensed tradesperson in every Australian state and territory. In NSW, licences are administered by Building Commission NSW (formerly NSW Fair Trading). You should expect providers to display a valid state building or trade licence on quotes and advertising, and to hold an ABN, public liability insurance and industry memberships such as HIA or Master Builders.
