We got a building inspection from Scott for our first home and it was everything we could ask for. He explained everything when it comes to what makes our building good and he was very thorough with his assessment. He was also able to find a potential issue with our subfloor which we wouldn’t have known without him and possibly saved us thousands of dollars!

Frequently asked questions

How much do building inspectors typically charge?
Costs vary depending on the type of inspection, property size, report detail and travel required. Many building inspectors charge an hourly rate plus a call-out fee, with higher rates for after-hours attendance. This page shows live pricing to help you compare quotes.
Do building inspectors charge call-out fees?
Yes — many building inspectors charge a call-out fee to attend and assess a property. That fee typically covers travel and the initial assessment and is separate from the hourly rate and any report costs. It's sensible to confirm any call-out or minimum charges when requesting quotes.
Do building inspectors need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Building inspection and certifying work generally needs to be carried out by a licensed or registered building inspector or certifier under state and territory rules. In New South Wales the responsible authority is the NSW Building Commission (formerly NSW Fair Trading). Look for providers who display valid state registration, an ABN with GST registration and appropriate public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
