BWG built us a large spotted gum deck at the back of our house and we were very happy with the result. The team listened to our needs whilst offering plenty of guidance along the way, took time and care with their work, and ensured open and consistent communication throughout the build. I’d have no hesitation recommending Black Willow Group for all your carpentry needs.

We engaged Lachlan and his team to complete a major renovation of our house on the northern beaches. From the outset Lachlan made the process seamless, painless and professional. We were still living in the house which would normally have added to the challenge and stress but great communication and planning meant a smooth and largely problem-free project. The work itself was fantastic and we were delighted with the result. He is committed, competent, focused, flexible and builds confidence and trust with his clients. We would use Lachlan again in a heartbeat and would strongly recommend his work.

Frequently asked questions

How much do builders typically charge?

Builder costs vary widely depending on the job type and complexity. Minor repairs are generally much less than extensions, small builds or structural alterations that need foundations, framing or specialist input. Most quotes include a call‑out fee plus labour and materials, and the page shows live pricing to help you compare options.

Do builders charge call-out fees?

Call‑out fees are common and typically cover travel and an initial inspection or assessment. This fee is usually separate from hourly labour and materials, and after‑hours or weekend attendance often attracts higher rates. Ask whether a call‑out or minimum charge applies when requesting quotes.

Do builders need a licence in Australia?

Yes. Building work generally needs to be carried out by a licensed builder in every state and territory, and NSW builders are regulated by NSW Fair Trading. Builders should be able to provide their state builder/contractor licence number and show appropriate insurances and ABN/GST registration. In Victoria, domestic building insurance is required above a state threshold for certain contracts.
