Highly recommend. Andrew is a skilled arborist. He and his team were efficient, lovely to deal with and also well priced. They removed a large tree awkwardly planted on our fence line, hitting the side of our double storey home, the noise of which kept us up on windy nights and also causing constant dirty windows, attracting spider webs and bird poo! Whilst Andrew did mention we had options for pruning, he recommended it go and we agreed. Will definitely keep STM in mind for the future arbory needs and refer you onto friends and family 👍

Andrew and Chris were amazing! Professional, friendly, and took great care with the job. There was some very minor damage to a few seedlings in my veggie patch, and without hesitation they insisted on replacing them. Andrew’s pricing was already very reasonable, but because they couldn’t remove one tricky branch from my neighbour’s 30-metre cypress pine, he even charged less than the original quoted price. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough — outstanding service from start to finish!

Amazing work done by Andrew and his team. They dismantle the tricky tree at the back yard with narrow access. Happy with the service and highly recommended to anyone.

Arborist costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do arborists typically charge?
Arborist costs vary widely depending on the type and scale of work. Factors such as tree size and species, site access, whether removal and stump grinding are needed, required equipment and disposal all affect the total. Most quotes separate a call-out component from labour and materials, and after-hours or emergency jobs generally attract higher rates. The live pricing on this page shows current estimates for different job types.
Do arborists charge call-out fees?
Many arborists charge a call-out fee to attend and assess the job, which is usually separate from labour and materials. That fee typically covers travel and the initial site inspection, and smaller or remote jobs may be subject to a minimum charge. It's worth confirming whether a call-out fee is included in any quote you receive.
When do arborists need a licence?
Arborists often need registration or specific contractor credentials for higher-risk, large-scale or regulated tree work. Where the scope overlaps with regulated building or contractor work, providers should hold a valid state contractor or builder credential and comply with local council permit requirements for protected trees. For higher‑risk tasks, look for evidence of public liability insurance, documented work-at-heights controls and SWMS.
