I have a Rinnai Sunmasters Gas Boost Solar Water Heater system which is 13+ years old. It has never been serviced before but has gone 'faulty' once about a year ago, when it completely failed to deliver any hot water. The plumber I knew, changed the tempering valve to restore the hot water. However, of late especially with the cold weather, the hot water isn't giving the necessary quantity because at times during a shower, the hot water 'disappears' and we will be shivering for 15 or more seconds before it comes back. It can happen a few times during a shower. Mr Brooke was recommended to me by my brother-in-law, to have a check on the water heater. I was very surprised that he could come to check the water heater system the same day. He made an appointment to come over to my property at 12 noon, 2~3 hours after my phone call to him. He arrived promptly, introduced himself and went to work straight away. He checked the system and answered a lot of my queries professionally. I am from Malaysia, and I have never come across such a system there. Normally, we install single phase instant electric water in the house for our shower in Malaysia. Brooke did a thorough check and said the system is delivering hot water at a maximum temperature of only around 43 degrees C when it should be 50 degrees, even after adjusting the tempering valve to its maximum. Brooke changed the tempering valve to a better one, and was able to make the system deliver 50+ degrees hot water from the system. He charges are very reasonable bordering on being 'cheap'. Thank-you very much Brooke for your help and most of all your advice for the future which I would no doubt keep in mind. I will definitely call you again for implementing my future plan for the system. Best regards and thanks again!!

Frequently asked questions

How much do plumbers typically charge?
Plumbing costs vary significantly depending on the type of job and its complexity. Simple fixture repairs are generally much less than jobs involving pipe replacement, excavation or gas appliance work. Most quotes include a call-out fee, hourly labour and parts, with after-hours or emergency attendance usually attracting higher rates. This page shows live pricing for jobs in your area.
Do plumbers charge call-out fees?
Call-out fees are common and are often used to cover travel and the initial assessment. Plumbers typically add hourly labour and any materials or replacement parts to the call-out fee. After-hours, weekend or emergency attendances are usually charged at higher rates and some small jobs may have a minimum charge.
Do plumbers need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Plumbing work must be carried out by a licensed plumber in every Australian state and territory, and in NSW the regulator is NSW Fair Trading (Building Commission NSW). Plumbers will generally provide their licence number and should be able to supply compliance certificates for regulated work. Look for an ABN, public liability insurance and relevant industry memberships as additional trust signals.
