Matt and Liam produced a miracle when painting our beach house at Lorne. The house looks like a new home after their hardwork. Book Matt and his team in now! You won’t be disappointed. Kelly McCloskey

We were referred to Matthew by our daughter. He came to do a quote promptly on our 4 bedroom, 2 storey house. The quote was competitive and we arranged for Matthew and his team to complete the work while we were away for 3 weeks. I had no hesitation in entrusting him with the work in our absence and on our return we were thrilled with the result. His attention to detail and the fact that there wasn't one drop of paint splatter anywhere validated our confidence in his work. I highly recommend him.

We engaged Matt Wright - to complete our stairwell and passage way at our house , being a double story it was a little more challenging than a stanrd room, Whilst here we asked to tidy up the doors and arcs which was no concern to his team. On completion there was ZERO mess and prpoerty left in perfect condition, paintwork was perfect, even better than this the arcs and doors were 10 times better than I could have done and all small trivial holes were tidies up - It was like being in a new house even though 50 years old. Great job Matt and team , highly recommend to everyone - great to see a tradie that takes pride in work thank you

Frequently asked questions

How much do painters typically charge?
Painting costs depend on the size of the job, the condition of existing surfaces, and whether the work is interior, exterior or both. Jobs requiring significant preparation such as sanding, filling or priming will generally cost more than a straightforward repaint over sound surfaces. Most painters quote per square metre or per room, with exterior work and multi-storey access typically attracting higher rates. This page shows live pricing for jobs in your area.
Do painters need a licence in Australia?
Yes. In most Australian states and territories, painters carrying out domestic work above a certain value must hold a trade-specific licence or registration. Licensing requirements and thresholds vary by jurisdiction — for example, NSW requires a Contractor Licence for painting work. A licensed painter should be able to provide their licence number on request, and you can verify it with your state's building authority.
How should I prepare my home before painters arrive?
Most painters will handle masking, drop sheets and surface preparation as part of the job, but clearing the area of furniture, wall hangings and fragile items beforehand helps the job run smoothly and may reduce your quote. For exterior work, ensure the painter has clear access to all walls and that garden beds or outdoor furniture are moved back. Discuss any specific concerns like lead paint, mould or moisture damage before work begins so the painter can plan accordingly.
How do I get a quote from M.P. Wright Painting and Decorating?
