I engaged Wombat Carpentry to extend my deck and build a pergola. Tony was able to develop a solution that made the best use of the available space and catered to my particular constraints. I was really happy with the finished deck and pergola as they were built to a high standard of craftsmanship and look fantastic to boot!

We bought a house in the area recently and were looking for a local carpenter. We met with Tony from Wombat Carpentry, who's proven to be very knowledgeable, and happy to answer any questions, and with a good eye for detail. His pricing has been very competitive. He's just an all-round lovely guy to have around, too. We can now close our french doors properly, and have just had all our ancient floorboards removed and replaced with totally flat and level yellow-tongue board, ready for us to lay a new floating floor. He's done an excellent job, and we'll have him back for future projects I'm sure. We'd have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone looking to have any carpentry work done.

Carpentry costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do carpenters typically charge?
Carpentry costs vary widely depending on the job. Simple trim or door hanging is usually less than internal framing, small outdoor structures or timber repairs that require more labour and materials. Most carpenters charge a call-out fee plus an hourly labour rate, with after-hours work attracting higher rates; this page shows live local pricing to help you compare quotes.
Do carpenters charge call-out fees?
Call-out fees are common and typically cover travel and the initial assessment. These fees are usually charged separately from hourly labour and materials. After-hours attendance is often charged at a higher rate, so confirm any call-out or minimum fees when requesting quotes.
Do carpenters need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Carpentry work is generally required to be carried out by a licensed tradesperson in every Australian state and territory. In NSW, licences are administered by Building Commission NSW (formerly NSW Fair Trading). You should expect providers to display a valid state building or trade licence on quotes and advertising, and to hold an ABN, public liability insurance and industry memberships such as HIA or Master Builders.
Does Wombat Carpentry have a verified ABN?
Yes. Wombat Carpentry has completed ABN verification on SureQuote.
How do I get a quote from Wombat Carpentry?
