We highly recommend Michael at Just Ask Uncle Buck for any carpentry and subcontracting needs! I don't think there is anything he can't do!! Seriously! He recently built a stunning, custom-sized outdoor setting for us, featuring a beautifully crafted tabletop made from Eucalyptus Redwood, with a sturdy frame and stools built from Blackbutt hardwood. The quality and attention to detail in his work are outstanding. Michael is reliable, professional, and truly passionate about his craft. If you're looking for exceptional workmanship and someone who takes pride in their work, he's the one to call!

Mike built us a fence and new gate- could not be happier with the result. Great communication, and a strong focus on getting the detail right.

Frequently asked questions

How much do carpenters typically charge?
Carpentry costs vary widely depending on the job. Simple trim or door hanging is usually less than internal framing, small outdoor structures or timber repairs that require more labour and materials. Most carpenters charge a call-out fee plus an hourly labour rate, with after-hours work attracting higher rates; this page shows live local pricing to help you compare quotes.
Do carpenters charge call-out fees?
Call-out fees are common and typically cover travel and the initial assessment. These fees are usually charged separately from hourly labour and materials. After-hours attendance is often charged at a higher rate, so confirm any call-out or minimum fees when requesting quotes.
Do carpenters need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Carpentry work is generally required to be carried out by a licensed tradesperson in every Australian state and territory. In NSW, licences are administered by Building Commission NSW (formerly NSW Fair Trading). You should expect providers to display a valid state building or trade licence on quotes and advertising, and to hold an ABN, public liability insurance and industry memberships such as HIA or Master Builders.
