A BIG shout out for Michael! Right from the very start we knew we had the right guy for the job. We had Lantana and Camphor Laurel that had got out of control. It was over taking our property and suffocating native trees. Michael listened to what we needed and did exactly what we describe, and more! We also had him arrange the removal of a huge pine tree that was too close to the house to stay. The tree was positioned on the side of a hill that a standard tree removalist would not be able to get a chipper close enough. Michael and his machine ‘mulched’ the entire tree and also grinded the stump out…….perfect! I say ‘mulched’ as I mean there is no large pile of mulch as an eye saw, or have the need to spread it. The mulch is eventually spread over the ground and mixed with the dirt to breakdown as he works. Thanks again Michael, if we could give you 6 stars we would 😁 Cheers Ange and Dave

After thoroughly researching 12 different companies offering mulching services, calling and speaking to each company I decided to use East Coast Mulching. Right from the start Michael was very friendly and informative on the differences between the machines on the market and what they were best suited to. Given that I needed to clear scrub that also included trees some which were large it made sense to spend the money wisely and hire a machine and operator that could complete the whole job. The wheel of death as I have labeled it that East Coast Mulching has is capable of doing such a job in comparison to the drum munchers that every other company was offering which have limitations on what they can process and are significantly slower when the going gets tough, the speed that this mulches is something you have to see to believe ( they also had a drum mulcher on the truck ). I highly recommend Michael he was on time and completed the works exactly as he had promised, caused no damage to any other part of my property and came in on budget as promised. Watching him operate the machine so precisely as if it was an extension of his body was very impressive. If you need land cleared I would start with East Coast Mulching first. Very happy customer.

At first we were reluctant having never had land cleared using this technique before. But after having approx 4 acres (or could have been actually been closer to 5) done we would highly recommend East Coast Mulching. We were very impressed with the end result which was achieved in one day with one person & one machine! And no piles of rubbish to burn. Without a doubt this is the method we will use all the time moving forward. Michael is very good to deal with, great communication & responsive. James did a fabulous job clearing land of lantana, weeds, shrubs & saplings ready for my horses. I asked if James could keep as much of the grass as possible & was pleasantly surprised with how well he did. James was on time & he asked questions & checked to make sure he knew exactly what we wanted.

Arborist costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do arborists typically charge?
Arborist costs vary widely depending on the type and scale of work. Factors such as tree size and species, site access, whether removal and stump grinding are needed, required equipment and disposal all affect the total. Most quotes separate a call-out component from labour and materials, and after-hours or emergency jobs generally attract higher rates. The live pricing on this page shows current estimates for different job types.
Do arborists charge call-out fees?
Many arborists charge a call-out fee to attend and assess the job, which is usually separate from labour and materials. That fee typically covers travel and the initial site inspection, and smaller or remote jobs may be subject to a minimum charge. It's worth confirming whether a call-out fee is included in any quote you receive.
When do arborists need a licence?
Arborists often need registration or specific contractor credentials for higher-risk, large-scale or regulated tree work. Where the scope overlaps with regulated building or contractor work, providers should hold a valid state contractor or builder credential and comply with local council permit requirements for protected trees. For higher‑risk tasks, look for evidence of public liability insurance, documented work-at-heights controls and SWMS.
