I don't have much experience with building and pest companies as I have only bought twice and sold once. I used BPI Brisbane North when I bought my unit and they seemed good (but I had no comparison). He found some issues such as water not draining in the shower due to poor tiling (I ended up getting it fixed) and a sticking door. When I went to sell my unit, the buyer had a building and pest inspector come around and he was not very thorough at all. I don't think he even ran the showers and had apparently never even seen an electric "heat as you go" hot water system. I think he also only inspected inside my unit.. nothing external as he needed a key to get access to the basement carpark and never asked me for it. This experience showed me that not all inspectors are created equal. I needed a building and pest inspector myself soon after to look at a house I was potentially going to buy and I was sure to look up my original inspectors (BPI Brisbane North). I trusted that they were going to be as thorough as they could. The real estate agent even commented that it was strange for an inspection to last 1 hour (more proof of thoroughness). Thanks to BPI I now have some confidence in my newly purchased home along with a list of maintenance issues I should address once I take possession.
