Ash completely painted our 150 year old weatherboard in Daylesford inside and out. His care, quality and attention to detail were exceptional. The house is transformed - he not only painted, he truly restored the house. Our only regret is we don’t have more things for him to paint! We couldn’t recommend Ash more highly.

Ashley helped us with some repairs and painting at our place in Malvern. He did a great job and was really thorough. We’re really happy with the result and would definitely recommend him.

Our old Camberwell home was in pretty rough shape — faded paint, peeling weatherboards, worn sills, broken sash cords, missing putty, and even sections of rotten timber. We genuinely thought parts of it might be beyond saving. Ashley from RRS Paint did an exceptional job. The preparation and repairs were incredibly thorough, and he took the time to explain everything clearly, which we really appreciated as we were both extremely busy at the time. It gave us complete confidence to leave the project in his hands, knowing it was being done properly. And wow — what a difference! The house feels refreshed, the paint looks smooth and clean, the timber and putty have been repaired beautifully, and the sash windows are fully functional again. The whole process was stress-free and tidy from start to finish. Thanks Ashley, we couldn’t be happier with the result and highly recommend RRS Paint.

Ash did a fantastic job painting my old weatherboard house. Who knew there was a lovely, solid building under all that peeling paint and rot?! He didn’t just paint over problem areas—he restored and replaced damaged wood as he went. Despite challenging weather conditions, he was persistent, thorough, and thoughtful. Ash kept his work area very tidy and clean. The house is completely transformed and I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend him for quality workmanship.

Appointed RRS (Ashley) to paint our late 1800’s timber cottage plus extension, double carport and separate studio. The previous paint job on the house was clearly a cosmetic effort for sale purposes with insufficient effort dedicated to preparation. We were attracted to Ashley’s detailed description of his services on his website and positive Google reviews. In particular, Ashley’s service included rectification of any timber rot and other defects which was unusual for a painter in our experience. With the job now complete, we couldn’t be happier. Ashley did everything he said he would do. Preparation of the weatherboards was meticulous to a point of perfection. Ashley turned up every day at the time he said and worked a full day, even when some of the winter starts were zero degrees. Progress was reliable and consistent. He always cleaned up afterwards and left no mess. He was polite, friendly and very easy to deal with. He also offered good advice when required, e.g. when there were choices between colours for different surfaces. Very happy to offer this 5 star review for RRS Paint.

Painting costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do painters typically charge?
Painting costs depend on the size of the job, the condition of existing surfaces, and whether the work is interior, exterior or both. Jobs requiring significant preparation such as sanding, filling or priming will generally cost more than a straightforward repaint over sound surfaces. Most painters quote per square metre or per room, with exterior work and multi-storey access typically attracting higher rates. This page shows live pricing for jobs in your area.
Do painters need a licence in Australia?
Yes. In most Australian states and territories, painters carrying out domestic work above a certain value must hold a trade-specific licence or registration. Licensing requirements and thresholds vary by jurisdiction — for example, NSW requires a Contractor Licence for painting work. A licensed painter should be able to provide their licence number on request, and you can verify it with your state's building authority.
How should I prepare my home before painters arrive?
Most painters will handle masking, drop sheets and surface preparation as part of the job, but clearing the area of furniture, wall hangings and fragile items beforehand helps the job run smoothly and may reduce your quote. For exterior work, ensure the painter has clear access to all walls and that garden beds or outdoor furniture are moved back. Discuss any specific concerns like lead paint, mould or moisture damage before work begins so the painter can plan accordingly.
Does RRS Paint have a verified ABN?
Yes. RRS Paint has completed ABN verification on SureQuote.
How do I get a quote from RRS Paint?
