What Homeowners Are Saying
Real reviews from past customers
Unfortunately our experience with Dolan Trades is similar to others. As a builder for more than 30 years I have never seen such poor workmanship by so called professional painter and carpenters. Simon sounded professional and committed to doing a good job. However when it came to delivering what was promised they fell short on the quality of the finishing work of painting doors and trims. The walls and ceilings were of acceptable standard however the bathroom walls and ceiling were only painted with standard low sheen and not the manufactured recommended mould inhibited paint causing a significant issue. The work carried on on installing skirting and architraves was was poor and they cut the carpet back from the wall exposing the smooth edge and didn’t put down drop sheets as they knew the carpet was being replaced at some point. The quote called for three coats of paint one primer and two top coats, this clearly was not done as the base coat was showing through. No sanding appears to be done prior to paint the trims with putty in some areas being painted over. Runs in the paint, poor to no gapping being done and in general a really poor quality finish. When asked to address the issues the owner said they would come back and put a bit of paint on a few architraves and one door but wouldn’t do anything about the bathroom. But only if we paid for extras they undertook of their own accord and stated there wouldn’t be an extra cost at the time. In addition to the poor quality of workmanship they also left behind all the old doors and trims for my 80 year old mother in law to dispose of. The owner kept reverting back to us negotiating the price therefore we can’t expect a quality job and also used the fact that my mother in law had to leave because her brother in law was dying, this was the cause of the poor work apparently. The owner was not willing to take responsibility for any of the mistakes or poor workmanship and just wanted to blame everyone else. I would not recommend this business for any carpentry or painting projects. In response to Dolan trades response I refer back to the only way they would rectify the many issues was for the work completed as extras and no cost would be now be charged. It was also stated that because the price was negotiated to one that both parties agreed to then we shouldn’t expect the work to be as good as one would expect. In addition to this the attitude of the business owner was one of passive aggressive starting will being unwilling to remove his shoes before entering the home, leaving the entry door open when asked more than once to close it due to the heat escaping. Unwilling to take responsibility for any of the poor quality work or mistakes. Suggesting my mother in law was the issue and cause of the poor workmanship. Not willing to seek advice from the paint suppliers and not able to offer a valid reason for the leaching on the bathroom walls. In addition to all this the workers destroyed the carpet in all three bedrooms but cutting it back and getting paint all over it. Yes the carpet was to be replaced in the future however this wasn’t to be within the next six months so the use of drop sheets should have been part of the process. Well Simon, if you say you are happy to fix the poor work for Alice the owner of the home why haven’t you done that already. How about putting your money where your mouth is. Call Alice and make a time to go back and apply the second coat of top coat to all the doors and trims that haven’t been done. Fix the architraves that were installed wrong and apply the right paint to the bathroom. But please also make sure you put down drop sheet to protect the new carpet and flooring as we don’t want a repeat of last time. If you do what you say you will do and fix these issues I am happy to remove this review because as I said to you at the time everyone makes mistakes but it’s how we deal with them that matters. You first chose to deny any mistakes and would only come back and fix the shoddy work if Alice paid for you to do it. Let’s see what you do now.
Simon and his team did an amazing job of painting the interior of our unit. I could not be happier with how it all turned out. Simon helped me with all the little details that I didn’t even think about, not having done this before. Would definitely recommend.
I had Simon give me a quote for painting the windows, doors, facias and eaves of our house which I accepted. I found him to be refreshingly open about what was required and how he would go about it. The team Jacob, Noah and Pat did an amazing job. A special mention to Jacob, he was the constant presence every day, always on time, diligent, and hard working. He managed the day to day activities and was friendly, pproachable, knowledgeable and always available to explain what was happening. He is a asset to DolanTrades. It was evident that they all like working for DolanTrades, which shows respect for the business, Simon and each other as well as the client is evident in the quality of their work. As a local business competing against larger firms and franchises they are all aware that their reputation is the paramount and is the source of on-going business. In that regard, I have no hesitation in recommending Simon and his team for any work you might need to have done and encourage you to give them a call.
