As someone that works with various contractors in the industry, it was a pleasure to deal with someone who values service to the client. I found Nathan Ruben to be professional and practical when providing advice, who went above and beyond to ensure that the client achieved their goal. Huggins Painting is an absolute joke of a company. Avoid at all costs. They were contracted for 3 years to paint my town house community (28 town homes) and were paid over $30k per year to pressure wash and touch up each house. Not only did they not use any soap/cleaning additive to pressure wash any of the homes, they refused to do any washing or painting higher than 3m. In November they attended my home to pressure wash only and did not touch up any paint. Additionally, entered my backyard without ringing the doorbell to check and see if access was okay especially when my puppy had access to the back yard and they left the gate wide open. Earlier in the year I had painted an internal fence and paint sprayed onto the front facade which I had intended to paint myself however, the body corporate advised to leave this until Higgins Painters were scheduled to come as they would paint over. They did not paint over and advised it wasn’t their job or part of their scope of works to “touch up”.

My body corp used Higgins a couple of years back to undertake a complete repainting of the exterior of our buildings. As of two years ago, we've been seeing their paint work fade and look patchy as per the photo attached of one area in the complex where their paint work has deteriorated severely. None of this is under warranty anymore of course and the total cost to fix is massive for the problem it is. For something that's meant to look decent for 5-7yrs, especially for a $110k+ price tag, I really cannot recommend Higgins. At the very least, if comparing quotes, compare with their pricing that includes a maintenance plan so you at least get your money's worth (though I doubt it'll be competitive at that point with other painters like Rochelle Painting). EDIT: To Higgins' credit, they came out to take a look at the issues on site. However, the response was a bit contradictory. On one hand, they indicated that the issues regarding necessary building repairs affecting the paintwork couldn't have been foreseen. In the same response, they also stated that it's quite evident that there are structural issues when they inspected it 9yrs ago. Being someone who works in the property field, and has experience with procurement of large tenders, if Higgins really did identify that there were structural issues 9yrs ago, it would be extremely unethical for them to provide a quote/scope of work for $110k worth of painting without the necessary building repairs being undertaken as well (whether by their subcontractor or a requirement that the body corp procure this first). I appreciate Higgins' time with looking at the matter again but I cannot sway from my original rating given what I know and for such a large job, insufficient care was taken with scoping the work that has now resulted in further $20k quoted work from them.
