Have had a great experience with Port Poly Glaze. We wanted to design and create our own doors and panels for the new kitchen. Jamie was helpful, experienced and gave us lots of advice on how to prepare the doors and panels for painting. Every time we needed to call him to ask questions he was always available and nothing was too much trouble. Our job was painted in a very timely manner although we knew how busy he was just before Christmas. We have been absolutely delighted with the results. The doors and panels were finished to the highest of standards. By allowing us to have our doors and panels painted by professionals, the overall result has been better than we could have imagined. Very happy to recommend this professional company. Frank and Kris Briede.

I was lucky enough to find and pick up an original retro 8 drawer desk via Gumtree for $50, which was well worth the sanding, & many coats required to restore and make it a functional standout feature at home. Jamie the PCBU of Polyglaze was really accommodating and went beyond, enameling a sheet of glass to sit on top of the desk with a metallic charcoal. The finish is spectacular and really does this 50's/60's classic justice. Thanks Jamie, Josh & team for really good work. (it made good sense to scan the planet for a chair to match, which l found in Oz through a Melbourne company SKDesigner Living). didn't get a great shot of the glass top, will get one and post! In any case, Tks & Rgs Jordan

Painting costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do painters typically charge?
Painting costs depend on the size of the job, the condition of existing surfaces, and whether the work is interior, exterior or both. Jobs requiring significant preparation such as sanding, filling or priming will generally cost more than a straightforward repaint over sound surfaces. Most painters quote per square metre or per room, with exterior work and multi-storey access typically attracting higher rates. This page shows live pricing for jobs in your area.
Do painters need a licence in Australia?
Yes. In most Australian states and territories, painters carrying out domestic work above a certain value must hold a trade-specific licence or registration. Licensing requirements and thresholds vary by jurisdiction — for example, NSW requires a Contractor Licence for painting work. A licensed painter should be able to provide their licence number on request, and you can verify it with your state's building authority.
How should I prepare my home before painters arrive?
Most painters will handle masking, drop sheets and surface preparation as part of the job, but clearing the area of furniture, wall hangings and fragile items beforehand helps the job run smoothly and may reduce your quote. For exterior work, ensure the painter has clear access to all walls and that garden beds or outdoor furniture are moved back. Discuss any specific concerns like lead paint, mould or moisture damage before work begins so the painter can plan accordingly.
