James landscaped our front yard a couple of years ago and we have been delighted with the result! His intelligent and innovative use of plants, rock and other materials prompted me to engage James again recently to landscape the backyard. It has now been transformed into a beautiful, tranquil oasis that I enjoy every day. Five stars!

James landscaped our backyard in January/February 2016. He is an excellent communicator who is honest and extremely easy to deal with. His forestry science background shone through in his ideas for plants and our beautiful raised wooden vegetable garden with built in bench seat. His work is of extremely high quality and his attention to detail was outstanding. He is very neat, and cleans up thoroughly. Our basic plan combined with his ideas came together to result in a fantastic transformation of our yard. He went the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect, including repainting our clothesline to ensure it matched the painted fences. I couldn't recommend him more highly!

Landscaping costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do landscapers typically charge?
Costs vary widely depending on job type and complexity — a tidy-up is typically much less than a full makeover or structural retaining wall. Materials, labour hours, site access and any required design or engineering work usually drive the price. This page shows live pricing to help you compare current rates.
Do landscapers charge call-out fees?
Most landscapers charge a call-out fee to attend and assess the job, and this is usually separate from labour and materials. Hourly labour rates and after-hours or weekend attendance are often charged at higher rates. It’s worth confirming any minimum fees and what the call-out covers when requesting quotes.
When do landscapers need a licence in Australia?
Landscapers typically need a contractor licence or builder registration when work involves structural or building elements such as engineered retaining walls, footings or major excavation. Providers who undertake structural work will usually display a valid state contractor licence or builder registration, while smaller softscape-only jobs often do not require that registration. Check that any landscaper doing structural work holds the appropriate licence or registration.
