Pricing guide
The main cost drivers are slab thickness and whether the concrete might be structural. Thinner, non-structural toppings are typically quicker with lower labour and disposal needs, while thicker slabs with heavy reinforcement often require stronger breakers, specialist cutting or mechanical plant. Site access, disposal complexity and any traffic or permit requirements can also affect the final price.
Slab thickness and structural status
Thin toppings (typically <100mm) are usually quicker to remove, whereas very thick slabs (often >200mm) may require plant and could be treated as potentially structural.
Reinforcement and concrete density
Heavily reinforced or denser concrete generally increases breaking and removal time and may need extra labour to cut or extract rebar.
Site access and working space
Normal access allows hand tools or small breakers, while restricted access limits equipment choice and typically increases labour and time.
Mechanical plant or specialist cutting
Slabs in the 150–200mm range and above often need heavier breakers, diamond sawing or an excavator with a hammer, which changes mobilisation and scope.
Disposal and hazardous-material handling
Removal involves waste handling and disposal allowances; the presence of hazardous materials or larger volumes usually increases complexity and time.
