5 stars from start to finish. Our first experience having work done on our house and I was very relieved with how easy engaging with Tom was for planning and starting our project. Throughout the process communication was excellent, troubleshooting unexpected findings and making additional improvements to our home while working in the space. The site was kept tidy and safe, which was important to us with a toddler at home. Tom has significantly improved the street appeal and functionality of our home and I’m grateful every time I get home and see the work he did.

I was really pleased with the all the work carried out by Thomas, completely replacing my verandah and garden fence and work on the dormers and barge boards. Thank you.

Tom has completed a range of indoor and outdoor jobs from small to large for us. He’s arranged and installed a custom timber and glass barn door, coordinated a new powder room, refinished a kitchen with new benchtops and cabinet fronts, and completely rebuilt the front of our heritage-overlay house - knocking off the rotten verandahs, and rebuilding them. He coordinates all the trades to get the job done - from extra carpenters to electrician, plumber and painters.

We recently engaged Tom to install a new timber floor in our sunroom/conservatory and take care of several fix-ups around the house, including closing off old fireplace and adjusting doors. Tom also fully renovated our bathroom. His workmanship was excellent, communication was clear and everything was finished to a high standard. Reliable, tidy, and easy to deal with — highly recommended!

Had a deck extension completed and Tom was punctual, professional and just a really good bloke to deal with. The craftsmanship was quality and will def be getting him back for more jobs in the future.

Carpentry costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do carpenters typically charge?
Carpentry costs vary widely depending on the job. Simple trim or door hanging is usually less than internal framing, small outdoor structures or timber repairs that require more labour and materials. Most carpenters charge a call-out fee plus an hourly labour rate, with after-hours work attracting higher rates; this page shows live local pricing to help you compare quotes.
Do carpenters charge call-out fees?
Call-out fees are common and typically cover travel and the initial assessment. These fees are usually charged separately from hourly labour and materials. After-hours attendance is often charged at a higher rate, so confirm any call-out or minimum fees when requesting quotes.
Do carpenters need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Carpentry work is generally required to be carried out by a licensed tradesperson in every Australian state and territory. In NSW, licences are administered by Building Commission NSW (formerly NSW Fair Trading). You should expect providers to display a valid state building or trade licence on quotes and advertising, and to hold an ABN, public liability insurance and industry memberships such as HIA or Master Builders.
Does Dark Ridge Carpentry have a verified ABN?
Yes. Dark Ridge Carpentry has completed ABN verification on SureQuote.
