Couldn't be happier with the service, quality and cost of Fractal Building! Kyle and his crew completed some renovations on our old farmhouse. Other trades working on the house have raved about the high standard of his work! Great communication and fair costs (and a pretty good work site play list). Can highly recommend for building work where quality matters!

Building experience with Kyle Naeff. After much deliberation we ultimately decided to buy a property which required a great deal of renovation despite having initially dismissed the idea due the extent of work involved. The renovation was not straight forward but Kyle took on the project & resolved the considerable issues with care & patience. Kyle listened to our requirements & made suggestions for containing the budget. He pursued the project consistently keeping it moving & delivered on time. Kyles attention to the complex roofing issues is a credit to his expertise & persistence. Kyle remained calm, communicative & focussed for the entire build. We have no hesitation in recommending Kyle to anyone considering building. We can't thank him enough for realising our vision

We had a 12m x 3m deck falling down from dry rot. We needed it fixed and a new access ramp built. Kyle worked out how to do it and because it was a job with potential hidden problems he gave us a rough estimate and we agreed on an hourly rate. This can be like signing a blank cheque with some tradies, but not with Kyle. He charged us for when he was on site, and when he was on site he was working. And he was on site till the job was finished. He consulted us on any problems or possible alternatives. I'm pretty picky but I enjoy looking at Kyle's work because I know good work when I see it. His invoicing was thorough and included all materials invoices for our information. Words I would use to describe Kyle are; honest, hard working, professional, knowledgeable, careful, respectful. We got lucky when Kyle took on our job. Thanks Kyle.

It was a hassle-free experience dealing with Kyle Naeff who installed waterproof panelling in our bathroom. His work was excellent.

Carpentry costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do carpenters typically charge?
Carpentry costs vary widely depending on the job. Simple trim or door hanging is usually less than internal framing, small outdoor structures or timber repairs that require more labour and materials. Most carpenters charge a call-out fee plus an hourly labour rate, with after-hours work attracting higher rates; this page shows live local pricing to help you compare quotes.
Do carpenters charge call-out fees?
Call-out fees are common and typically cover travel and the initial assessment. These fees are usually charged separately from hourly labour and materials. After-hours attendance is often charged at a higher rate, so confirm any call-out or minimum fees when requesting quotes.
Do carpenters need a licence in Australia?
Yes. Carpentry work is generally required to be carried out by a licensed tradesperson in every Australian state and territory. In NSW, licences are administered by Building Commission NSW (formerly NSW Fair Trading). You should expect providers to display a valid state building or trade licence on quotes and advertising, and to hold an ABN, public liability insurance and industry memberships such as HIA or Master Builders.
