We had a wonderful experience having our kitchen designed and installed by Smith and Smith Kitchens. The designer came up with creative solutions that met our needs and gave excellent recommendations about colour schemes and layout. The team involved in installing our kitchen was professional and efficient. We were 100% happy with our kitchen, designed and installed by Smith and Smith Kitchens. We would happily recommend them to others.

Overall, I am very happy with my new kitchen and would love to share my thoughts, as I think you are a great company with a lot to offer. There are just a few areas where I feel things could be fine-tuned to improve the overall customer experience. Kitchen Design: Beth was great at listening and translating my instructions into the exact design I had envisioned. I appreciated her accuracy and responsiveness. However, I was a bit surprised that no other design options or suggestions were offered, especially considering that she’s a kitchen designer. It felt like the process was more about drawing up what I asked for rather than offering any creative input or enhancements, which I would have welcomed. I also inquired about stone benchtops and tiles, expecting some guidance or recommendations, but was told I needed to source and select these myself. While I was happy to take this on, I found it unexpected — particularly since the company presents itself as ‘kitchen people,’ not just cabinet makers. I assumed a more holistic service or at least some direction would be part of the process. The Build: The build itself went extremely smoothly and stayed within budget, which we were very pleased with. John Adams was excellent — professional, communicative, and easy to work with. All of the trades involved were also top-notch, and we were impressed by the overall workmanship and organisation. Installation: The installation process was seamless, and we were very happy with the results. Everything was completed to a high standard and within the expected timeframes. Post-Installation Follow-Up: One point of disappointment was the lack of follow-up after installation. Once the kitchen was completed and payment was made, we didn’t hear anything further from Smith and Smith. It felt like the communication ended abruptly, which was surprising. We would have appreciated a follow-up call or visit — ideally from the designer — to check that we were happy with the final product. That kind of “full circle” moment would have rounded off the experience nicely and reinforced a sense of customer care. Overall: We are genuinely very happy with our kitchen. The quality of the cabinetry and the professionalism of the tradespeople were outstanding, and we would definitely recommend you to others. You are excellent cabinet makers and deliver a high-quality product. With a bit more emphasis on design consultation and customer aftercare, your service could go from great to exceptional.

Process was smooth and professional, if a little lengthy. One or two issues were resolved quickly without complaint. Result was brilliant which is by far the most important thing.

Great designer with really good tips and ideas. Very professional design documentation. Delighted with finished product although a bit unhappy with their lack of clean-up at the end of the job. Never happy when a contractor wants 100% of the funds before they install the cabinetry and wants their customer to rely solely on the contractor's "reputation" for any defect rectification.

Our renovation was designed and delivered exactly as discussed. All involved, from Smith and Smith employees to tradesmen, were extremely professional and skilled, responsive to requests and questions, efficient, and clean and tidy during preparation and installation. The modernised kitchen complements our Californian bungalow and our lifestyle - it is a great pleasure daily.

Smith & Smith had been recommended to us by two other people, and we'd be pleased to pass on that recommendation to anyone. Design that considered all our needs and wants (and gently steered us away from what would have been unwise ideas) and installation crerws that were a pleasure to have in the house. The end result is just the ticket.

Frequently asked questions

How much do cabinet makers typically charge?
Costs vary widely depending on the job type, size, materials and complexity, and whether on‑site fabrication or after‑hours attendance is required. The prices shown on this page update live and reflect typical call‑out and labour charges plus materials. Simple repairs are generally much less than full kitchen or built‑in installations.
Do cabinet makers charge call-out fees?
Many cabinet makers charge a call‑out fee to attend and assess a job, which is usually separate from labour and materials. After‑hours or emergency attendance is often charged at a higher rate. Check each quote to see whether a call‑out fee is included or listed separately.
When do cabinet makers need a licence?
Some states expect cabinet makers to hold contractor registration or a valid licence, and providers in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA commonly display state contractor registration on quotes and advertising. Requirements vary by state, so check your local state regulator for the exact rules that apply to your job.
