We contracted Justin Philpot of Dream Doors Brisbane East to undertake a renovation of our 20 year old kitchen / living area in an apartment purchased a few years prior. The kitchen had ‘good bones’ but was in need of a facelift to bring it into the mid 2020’s. After contacting a number of builders and kitchen renovation specialists, all of whom wanted to completely gut the kitchen and start again, I discovered Dream Doors. The difference with Dream Doors is that they are happy to work with the existing kitchen and renovate it, not completely replace it. In our case we had a very good granite bench top that I didn’t really want to replace - it seemed a waste to do so, not just from a cost, but quality point of view. The layout of the kitchen didn’t really need changing, although I did want a few extra overhead cupboards and a small wall made deeper to accommodate a larger pantry. Instead of ripping everything out Dream Doors removed the old doors and drawers, leaving the carcass of the cupboards in place, installed the extra cupboards / new pantry I wanted and fitted new doors, kick boards and the front panel of our dishwasher. This resulted in a brand new fresh look at a fraction of the price of the alternative quotes. In addition we had a supporting column at the end of the kitchen bench that was hidden in a badly shaped cupboard. The column obviously could not be moved but the cupboard could be so Justin cleverly designed a new cupboard around it. Removing the old cupboard opened up so much space and the redesigned cupboard has become the home for my ironing board, Dyson vacuum etc. The kitchen bench top had an overhang that was originally designed as a breakfast bar, but as we didn’t use it this way Justin designed some slim under bench cupboards to fit in this area, giving even more storage area. We then matched this with a low bench (and more cupboards) in the adjoining living area. This work has completely transformed the look and feel of our kitchen and living area, and has tied the two areas together nicely. The quality of the workmanship is excellent, the finishes are very good quality; easy to clean and maintain. The installer, Reece, was exceptional - he was meticulous with his work. I couldn’t speak highly enough of him. Justin was very good in keeping me informed of the work plan and every one turned up on time and when expected. Overall, we are very happy with the work, and have provided Justin’s details to a couple of our neighbours who also need work done. Cost wise, it is a very affordable way of achieving a good outcome without the need to completely start from scratch. I am very happy to recommend Justin and Dream Doors Brisbane East.
