I’m a trout fly fish guide normally working in Tas Central Highlands. I recently experienced a weld break in my Mackay boat trailer for my 4.55m Quintrex boat and the trailer needed URGENT repair. RL Welding needed me to get the boat off the trailer to facilitate the welding job on the trailer. They suggested that I go to Margate Marina to stow the boat while the welding was done. Fiona Mather and Ross Daley of Margate Marina were courteous, thoughtful, keen to offer their assistance and were really helpful as well as being 100% professional in helping me get the job done. They advised that they needed to sight $20 Mill Public Liability Insurance Cover Note and helped me get all of the paper work right to protect the other vessels in the marina as well as their own assets. Ross directly assisted stowing my boat by providing vessel fenders (for which I have no need in the Lakes’ Country) and he provided practical help to enable me to securely store my vessel cover and to facilitate the tasks, to get my boat off the trailer and to enable access for RL Welding to get the repairs done on my boat trailer in a very tight timeframe … when we were all under pressure on the Friday afternoon before the Royal Hobart Regatta and the Wooden Boat Festival long weekend. The team also enabled me to quickly “pack-up” and get away when the job was complete. Businesses working cooperatively together to enable my embryonic business to stay alive. Thank you RL Welding and Margate Marina!!

Our business, Loci Landscapes, has been using Rob and the team at RL welding regularly for our custom fabrication needs. Rob and Sharon are true professionals in their field, nothing is ever a problem, and I love the fact I can go and sit with Rob to detail complex steel and aluminium products for our projects. I can't recommend the team at RL highly enough.

Frequently asked questions

How much do balustrading installers typically charge?
Costs for balustrading work vary widely depending on the material chosen, the length and height of the balustrade, and how difficult the site is to access. Repairs are generally simpler than full replacements, while jobs that require engineered fixing, glass toughening or compliance certification are often more involved. This page shows live pricing to help you compare options for your specific job.
Do balustrading installers charge call-out fees?
Many balustrading installers charge a call-out or minimum attendance fee to assess the job and take measurements. This fee is usually separate from labour, materials and any after‑hours rates, which may apply for urgent or out-of-hours work. It's worth confirming whether a call-out fee applies when requesting quotes.
When do balustrading installers need a licence?
Registration or a contractor licence is often required when work affects structural elements, involves high-level glass or fall-protection, or when state thresholds for value or scope are met. Your installer should display a valid state building or contractor licence where the scope triggers apply, and be able to demonstrate compliance with the National Construction Code balustrade and barrier rules. Check with your state building regulator (for example, NSW Fair Trading or the Victorian Building Authority) if you're unsure about local thresholds.
How do I get a quote from RL Welding?
