We engaged The Stair company in a reasonably urgent situation due to the builder contracted for the home renovation being unable to install the balustrade. The Stair Company was able to assist us in very timely manner, prioritising our job due to safety hazards (we had an unprotected void on the first story in a home with young children). The stair company discussed our design ideas with us and offered solutions to structual issues whilst staying true to our design idea. The installation was performed skilfully and efficiently. All our questions were addressed and safety was checked prior to job completion. Everyone at the Stair Company was friendly, respectful and met us with a solution oriented, can-do approach. It felt like true collaboration. Their craftsmanship is great and we would definitely engage the stair company again.

We are thrilled with our new staircase. I had one little query about colour and the staircase company staff were fantastic. So neat. Has made such a difference. I was referred to the company by a builder and I didn’t bother getting another quote. They were/are so professional. From the first phone call to the quoting person to the installer. Excellent. Thanks very much.

I can highly recommend these guys. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a difficult area to fit new stairs as we wanted to change the design from the old ones. After changing our minds a couple of times with the direction of the stairs they managed to fit the stairs into the design we wanted. Two thumbs ups to a fantastic job.

Frequently asked questions

How much do balustrading installers typically charge?
Costs for balustrading work vary widely depending on the material chosen, the length and height of the balustrade, and how difficult the site is to access. Repairs are generally simpler than full replacements, while jobs that require engineered fixing, glass toughening or compliance certification are often more involved. This page shows live pricing to help you compare options for your specific job.
Do balustrading installers charge call-out fees?
Many balustrading installers charge a call-out or minimum attendance fee to assess the job and take measurements. This fee is usually separate from labour, materials and any after‑hours rates, which may apply for urgent or out-of-hours work. It's worth confirming whether a call-out fee applies when requesting quotes.
When do balustrading installers need a licence?
Registration or a contractor licence is often required when work affects structural elements, involves high-level glass or fall-protection, or when state thresholds for value or scope are met. Your installer should display a valid state building or contractor licence where the scope triggers apply, and be able to demonstrate compliance with the National Construction Code balustrade and barrier rules. Check with your state building regulator (for example, NSW Fair Trading or the Victorian Building Authority) if you're unsure about local thresholds.
