I had an incredible experience with Daniel from Stump Grinder Hire Australia and couldn’t recommend him highly enough. I originally booked a stump grinder hire because I wanted to try DIY stump grinding to save a bit of money. From the moment Daniel arrived, it was obvious I was dealing with someone who genuinely cared about doing the job properly. He took the time to guide me through how to use the machine, explained everything clearly, and made sure I felt confident before starting. Once I got into it, I quickly realised the stump was much larger and tougher than expected. Instead of leaving me to struggle, Daniel went completely above and beyond. Even though I hadn’t booked his labour and only hired the machine, he was happy to step in and do the job for me on the spot. For an additional fee, which was honestly a great price, he ground the stump down in about 25 minutes flat. That alone answered my question of how long does it take to grind a stump when you’ve got someone who knows exactly what they’re doing. In terms of how much does it cost to grind a stump, Daniel’s pricing was very fair, especially when you factor in the time saved and the quality of the result. I paid $400 all up for two large stumps. Compared to places like Kennards, where you have to organise a trailer, pick the machine up yourself, get no real instruction and still pay a premium, this was far more convenient and better value. What really sealed it for me was knowing I was supporting a local, family-run business. Daniel was friendly, professional, and genuinely eager to help. I went in thinking DIY was the way to go, but employing Daniel directly ended up saving me a huge amount of time, effort, and frustration. If you’re considering stump grinding, whether you’re weighing up DIY or hiring someone, Daniel and Stump Grinder Hire Australia deliver outstanding service. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

After dealing with the usual unscrupulous operators in this space, it was a pleasure dealing with Stump Grinder Hire Australia. Dan inspected the job, recommended and ultimately arranged someone to cut these massive stumps down and then he grinded them away for me. His communication was wonderful and tidied up after the job as well. Would not hesitate using him again. Support local!

Daniel is kind and patient to provide detailed instruction before operation. It's very good experience to hire from him. Another reason is that I don't have a trailer and doubt if I can drive safely with one. Daniel does the delivery and pick-up, that addresses all my pain points. Recommend!

Arborist costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do arborists typically charge?
Arborist costs vary widely depending on the type and scale of work. Factors such as tree size and species, site access, whether removal and stump grinding are needed, required equipment and disposal all affect the total. Most quotes separate a call-out component from labour and materials, and after-hours or emergency jobs generally attract higher rates. The live pricing on this page shows current estimates for different job types.
Do arborists charge call-out fees?
Many arborists charge a call-out fee to attend and assess the job, which is usually separate from labour and materials. That fee typically covers travel and the initial site inspection, and smaller or remote jobs may be subject to a minimum charge. It's worth confirming whether a call-out fee is included in any quote you receive.
When do arborists need a licence?
Arborists often need registration or specific contractor credentials for higher-risk, large-scale or regulated tree work. Where the scope overlaps with regulated building or contractor work, providers should hold a valid state contractor or builder credential and comply with local council permit requirements for protected trees. For higher‑risk tasks, look for evidence of public liability insurance, documented work-at-heights controls and SWMS.
