Nigel is an excellent operator, refreshingly honest in today's world, man of his word. Did a great job. His guys did not stop the whole time they were here. Got in and did the job exactly as quoted, took it all away, expertly cleaned up = one very happy customer. Would definitely recommend.

Efficient, reliable, obliging, did a good job, fair price, no whinging like many do. A pleasure to have Nigel and Tom on site. Unlike others who relied on me taking photos, Nigel came to see the job to give the quote. The job was completed two days later, on the day and time he specified.

We live in a rented property and requested a quote to have the hedge trimmed. When he came to inspect the work, Nigel was friendly, efficient and professional. We received the quote promptly and were happy with the service. Now the owner of the house is dealing with the trimming and it's out of our hands. Thanks for your help.

Got a fast response to my request for a quote - which ended up being the cheapest quote of the three I gathered by about $100. They came round to remove my palm within the week and the nice young men who took the tree did so without any fuss or mess. Would definitely use them again :)

Arborist costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do arborists typically charge?
Arborist costs vary widely depending on the type and scale of work. Factors such as tree size and species, site access, whether removal and stump grinding are needed, required equipment and disposal all affect the total. Most quotes separate a call-out component from labour and materials, and after-hours or emergency jobs generally attract higher rates. The live pricing on this page shows current estimates for different job types.
Do arborists charge call-out fees?
Many arborists charge a call-out fee to attend and assess the job, which is usually separate from labour and materials. That fee typically covers travel and the initial site inspection, and smaller or remote jobs may be subject to a minimum charge. It's worth confirming whether a call-out fee is included in any quote you receive.
When do arborists need a licence?
Arborists often need registration or specific contractor credentials for higher-risk, large-scale or regulated tree work. Where the scope overlaps with regulated building or contractor work, providers should hold a valid state contractor or builder credential and comply with local council permit requirements for protected trees. For higher‑risk tasks, look for evidence of public liability insurance, documented work-at-heights controls and SWMS.
Does Jim's Trees have a verified ABN?
