Was originally looking for a safe parking spot to leave at the end of a hiking trip, but now regretting not staying at the cottage. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by both Elizabeth and Keith who showed us around their lovely property. Well kept gardens and traditional wooden cottages set within the magnificent landscape of the Congewai Valley. Upon arriving back from hiking in the rain we were generously given warm showers and cups of tea. Would give 6/5 stars on hospitality alone.

A beautiful stay in a quiet corner of the Hunter Valley. Keith and Elizabeth made us feel so welcome. If you’re looking for an outdoorsy experience the al fresco cooking and dining is for you with its own pizza oven and well equipped barbecue kitchen. Comfortable, spacious and luxurious bedrooms. A great escape from city life, perfect for two couples or a small family. I would highly recommend.

My wife and I just got married at Lonely Goat Olives and we could not imagine a more perfect place to do so. We were able to use it for a small intimate wedding and we celebrated the ordeal over a couple of days. It was the perfect place to do so, as there’s many options for other activities, such as the wood fire pizza oven, a large fire pit, and a bush walking track. It was also just so picturesque for the wedding ceremony and offered many various backdrops for photos afterwards. Keith and Elisabeth were lovely hosts, and super helpful. They have a genuine love and passion for their property and rightly so! As soon as you get there you feel a sense of peace and tranquility (which definitely settled both our wedding jitters!). We loved the fact that it is a truly unique property and isn’t just another venue trying to make $$$ from weddings. Instead it’s been carefully built upon with detail and the owners’ own unique style and love of the place, preserving a feeling of intimacy and seclusion. It allowed freedom to tailor make our wedding to our own style and needs. We are so happy we found Lonely Goat Olives and will definitely be back again to visit this special place!

Arborist costs & guides

Frequently asked questions

How much do arborists typically charge?
Arborist costs vary widely depending on the type and scale of work. Factors such as tree size and species, site access, whether removal and stump grinding are needed, required equipment and disposal all affect the total. Most quotes separate a call-out component from labour and materials, and after-hours or emergency jobs generally attract higher rates. The live pricing on this page shows current estimates for different job types.
Do arborists charge call-out fees?
Many arborists charge a call-out fee to attend and assess the job, which is usually separate from labour and materials. That fee typically covers travel and the initial site inspection, and smaller or remote jobs may be subject to a minimum charge. It's worth confirming whether a call-out fee is included in any quote you receive.
When do arborists need a licence?
Arborists often need registration or specific contractor credentials for higher-risk, large-scale or regulated tree work. Where the scope overlaps with regulated building or contractor work, providers should hold a valid state contractor or builder credential and comply with local council permit requirements for protected trees. For higher‑risk tasks, look for evidence of public liability insurance, documented work-at-heights controls and SWMS.
